Portrait Extravaganza, Day 3: Sara + Itan (an E-Shoot)

By Dan & Anne Almasy | E-Shoots | October 28, 2008 |

Ever since we first met Sara and Itan in the spring, we’ve been looking forward to their E-Shoot! We knew they’d be up for all sorts of silliness, and we were right. First thing we did is shove them in our on-its-last-leg Camry and drive them around the corner to an old, busted-out storefront.  Some places just demand that pictures be taken, and this is one of those spots.

As soon as I set this up, Dan said, “Hey, you’re doing his shirt.”  GENIUS!  Too bad I didn’t realize it until it was pointed out to me.

Sometimes the best separation is created by using a flash BEHIND your subject.  That’s what we did here… notice the glow?

Then this is just good ol’ fashioned sun flare.

I think this was the part where Sara was trying to convince Itan that he could, in fact, look at her without turning his head.  Hilarity ensues.

Sara and Itan, THANKS for hanging out with us for so long on Sunday!  We can’t WAIT for April!

P.S. For everyone who will surely ask me later, Itan’s name is pronounced “EEEE-tonn”. ;D

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 3: Kelly + Kevin (an E-Shoot)

By Anne Almasy | E-Shoots | October 27, 2008 |

I first saw Kevin in my yoga class where his mom is my favorite-ever yoga instructor. It was really fun to officially meet him and his fiancee Kelly at an E-Shoot this past Sunday! These two really adore one another — it has to be clear to ANYONE who is in the same room with them. Seriously, Kevin couldn’t take his eyes off Kelly the entire time, which worked pretty well for our purposes!

To begin, this was one of the very first photographs that Dan made.  It was still pretty cold at this point in the morning, but they were troopers!

Kevin designed Kelly’s engagement ring himself, piecing together her favorite details of different rings she had seen.

Kelly and Kevin, it was wonderful to get to know you guys a little bit!  Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of you SOON!

(and Dan!)

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 2: Lena + Render + Rudi

By Anne Almasy | Portraits | October 26, 2008 |

It’s been nearly a year since I last saw Render, and WOW that kid has grown! And not only is his little body bigger, but he now is the proud owner of his very own personality. It was WONDERFUL to re-meet Render (bigger and better) and make some photographs of him with his oh-so-doting parents.

This first shot was one of the very last pictures I took, and it’s my absolute favorite.  Render and mom.

Then Render and dad.  (He really wanted to chew on that little vest he was wearing.  Haha.)

Another silly baby face!

I’m not sure what to call this… “Render On A Stick”…?  No, it’s “Render IS A Stick.”  Rudi basically holds Render by his legs and Render holds himself as straight as an arrow pointed out into midair.  It’s HILARIOUS.

Not sure why, but I love this shot of Rudi ready for a photo while Render just crawls off into the sunset.  Ha.

Must… touch… camera…!!!

(This time he succeeded.  Yay for lens cloths!)

LOVE love love this photo of Lena.  We dragged this couch off a pile of junk to use it just for this photo.  How cute is she in that hat (signed by the Dresden Dolls, I must add)!

WONDERFUL to see you all again!  Lena, we must do lunch SOON!  Kisses…

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 2: Kris + Henrik

By Dan & Anne Almasy | E-Shoots | October 25, 2008 |

I’ll probably screw this up, but let me at least try: Kris works in banking. In particular, she consults with corporations who are suffering from financial difficulties. So it shouldn’t be too difficult to imagine HOW INSANELY BUSY Kris has been the past few months. Just think about it for a few minutes…

Now that you get THAT picture, you can probably imagine how challenging it was for us to schedule any time to meet with Kris (2nd time) and Henrik (1st time) for some face-to-face and what we dubbed a “mini E-Shoot”. But — HOORAY! — Portrait Extravaganza weekend prevailed, and we did, in fact, get our hour+ with Kris and Henrik!

We love these two. They’re very, VERY chic, completely at ease with us and one another, and absolutely in love for the long haul. Henrik is Swedish, so we’re looking forward to a multi-lingual wedding celebration with them in November!

To begin, Kris. She is amazingly beautiful.

We LOVE Henrik’s checkered shirt.  He is so fabulously NOT American.

This is a reflection in a (rather dirty) mirror propped up behind one of the artist’s studios next door.

Counting the days ’til November 14th!

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 2: Bailey + Landon + Kacy

By Anne Almasy | Weddings | October 24, 2008 |

I feel like it was just yesterday that I was photographing Landon’s birth! It’s insane how quickly time has passed. Now Landon is EEEnormous, and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute and full of personality! He’s a lucky guy, too, ’cause he looks JUST like his gorgeous mama.  Look at that grin!

Haha.  I love this funny face.

Dan snagged that shot on the left as Landon crawled through the loft.

The shoot couldn’t be complete without a few portraits of Bailey with her boyfriend Kacy.  How cute are they?

Bailey’s eyes are just tremendous…

Bailey, I love you to pieces, and I am SO proud of you!

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 2: Alex, Class of 2009

By Anne Almasy | Portraits | October 23, 2008 |

Alex is part of my family — you know, in that “not-really-related” kind of way. Like a mafia family. But without the violence. Capisce?

So I’ve known Alex since he was brand-spankin’ new to this earth, and I cannot BELIEVE he’s now a senior in high school! Alex will be headed off to college soon (*sniff*sniff), and I’m SO proud of the awesome man he’s become.

Alex, thanks for trusting me to take your senior photos!

Alex plays football, and I wanted to do some dramatic stuff with his football pads.  This was taken in our building’s parking garage!

Okay, enough of the tough photos.  Here’s the REAL Alex:

I love you, Alex!

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 2: Megan + Reggie + Neveah

By Anne Almasy | Portraits | October 22, 2008 |

It was only in March that we photographed Megan and Reggie’s wedding, so I was SUPER excited to hear that they would be in town from New Jersey and wanted some family photos!

Originally the Brown family was supposed to be part of our Day 1 Extravaganza, but the icky weather and some equally nasty traffic pushed us to move their shoot to the morning of Day 2. I’m SO glad we did, too, because everyone was in great spirits, the sun was shining, the weather was incredible, and we really got to enjoy the very best that fall in Georgia has to offer.

I want to start with my FAVORITE photograph from the shoot. This was taken a little more than half-way through; everyone was relaxed and cozy in the tall grass.

Megan did a killer job coordinating their clothes!  She’s currently in school getting a second degree — this time for interior design.  I’m pretty convinced that she’ll rock that!

Reggie’s daughter Neveah is SUCH a precious girl!

Oh, the gorgeousness…  *sigh

While Neveah watched her dad and Megan being photographed, she decided it would be funny to weave this tree limb through her hair.  Only when she got stuck there did she rethink…  Too cute!

Look closely… there’s my shadow on the right!

It was WONDERFUL to see you guys again, Megan, Reggie, and Neveah!  Thank you for giving me your Saturday morning!

Portrait Extravaganza, Day 1: Mary + Steve + Mason

By Anne Almasy | Portraits | October 21, 2008 |

For some reason known only to the universe, the weekend of the 17th was THE weekend for portraits. It was absolute craziness how many phone calls we got about portraits and meetings for this weekend!  But we had a BLAST, and we have so many great photographs to show for our busyness.

Friday was Day 1 of our self-dubbed “Portrait Extravaganza”, and I began with Mary and Steve and their new baby boy Mason, who were visiting Atlanta from Washington state. The Marlowe family found us through their friends Sara and Mark, whose engagement photographs we made last year, and through Emmeline and Bobby, whose wedding we photographed in 2006.  (Thanks, guys!)

Mason is 3 months old and SO silly!  He’s just discovering how to make all of these cute little baby faces.

Mary and Steve were very brave to sit on this couch behind the artist’s loft next door.  Let’s just say the sofa had a strange dampness to it that couldn’t entirely be explained by the dampness outside…

The only downside to Friday was the RAIN. It literally rained ALL DAY LONG with not a single peek of sunlight. Thankfully we were all prepared, and moved from place to place under umbrellas. I feel very lucky to have so many great covered areas right near our loft.  It made this shoot much easier than it might have been otherwise!

Mary’s only official request was a photograph of everyone’s feet.  I think it’s precious that their feet are so dirty from walking around outside!  Except for Mason’s, that is.  He is so lazy, he actually got CARRIED around the whole time.  Sheesh.  *wink

Thank you, Marlowes, for making time for portraits during your trip!  It was wonderful to meet you all!
