Fresh Faces

By Dan & Anne Almasy | Personal | February 18, 2008 |

The new talent is in!

We’re lucky to have recently gotten to know three awesome new photographers on the Atlanta scene!

First, Anne got to photograph Tech student and creative go-getter Lauren Wright, who is probably smarter than most 30-year-olds. (Don’t ask her about the challenges of translating Virginia Woolf’s biography into Spanish unless your brain is ready for some exercise!)

Then, we had a blast hanging out with Kate and Matt Altmix on Sunday. Kate’s a jewelry designer-turned-photographer, and Matt’s a graphic designer-turned photographer! Kinda makes sense that they’re married, huh?

You guys are all awesome! Keep up the great work!

Video! Jessica + Brett

A little Flash Flava’…!

By Dan & Anne Almasy | Press & Praise | February 16, 2008 |

HUGE thanks to Matt Adcock and Sol Tamargo of del Sol Photography for including two of our photographs on their lighting blog, Flash Flavor!

Flash Flavor is an educational/inspirational blog dedicated to photography lighting techniques — particularly as they apply to a wedding photojournalist’s workflow. We’re honored to be featured among so many talented and creative photographers!

**Check out the full article here!

They pulled two shots for this post: 1. Anne’s bouquet-toss shot from Caroline and Stowe’s wedding in April 2006 — an oldie but still a favorite of ours! 2. Dan’s recent father/daughter dance photo from Jessica and Brett’s wedding!

Thanks to these gorgeous couples for being SO fun to photograph!

Simply Honored

By Dan & Anne Almasy | Press & Praise | February 13, 2008 |

We’re so pleased to be a new featured photographer for Simply Cinematic, an astoundingly talented team of videographers out of central Florida.

Simply Cinematic not only creates stunning high definition cinematography, but they’re absolutely some of the coolest cats we’ve ever had the pleasure to work with!

THEY TRAVEL, so if you’re looking for something truly innovative and moving in the video realm, these are the go-to guys, no matter where your wedding will be taking place! (Okay, okay, so we’re just begging for an excuse to get to work with them again!)

Take a few minutes to check out their website, and visit the “Featured Photographers” page to see US! They’re displaying some larger-than-life photographs from Jessica and Brett’s wedding, which they worked with us in December.

One of our faves is this shot of the flower girl, who wasn’t *quite* ready to smile for the camera…

Coffee Table Book! Whitney + Kevin

By Anne Almasy | Books & Albums | February 7, 2008 |

I’m going to share more than the usual number of spreads from Whitney and Kevin’s book because a bunch of people have been asking to see MORE! So here is the “more” you’ve requested. Clean and simple as always!

I really liked this “do-it-yourself-macro”* shot of their rings for the cover…

*Not sure what “diy-macro” is? Take your lens off your camera; flip it around backwards and fit it against the lens mount. Now move in CLOSE close close and VERY carefully find your focus. You are in effect shooting at f/1.0, so your depth of field will be super shallow, but it can be really cool once you get the hang of it! All you need is a steady hand — and a faster shutter speed can help a lot, too! This isn’t a substitution for a real macro lens, but it’s a great alternative if you’re on a budget, if your husband is using your macro lens, if your dog ATE your macro lens, or if you just want to try something different. (grin)

Coffee Table Book! Cayla + Ryan

By Anne Almasy | Books & Albums | February 2, 2008 |

I haven’t made a photo cover for a coffee table book in a LOOOOONG time, and I decided Dan’s sweet tilt-shift photo from Cayla and Ryan’s wedding was perfect for the cover of their AsukaBook! (Check that out along with a few of their page spreads below!)

Coffee Table Books for the Ladies!

By Anne Almasy | Books & Albums | February 1, 2008 |

I just finished designing two new Coffee Table Books for Laura and Melora, both 2008 high school seniors who chose me to photograph them in the fall!

Here is the cover and a couple of page spreads from Laura’s book:

Congratulations, girls! Graduation is only a few months away!
