Coffee Table Book! Christina S.

By Anne Almasy | Books & Albums, Design, Portraits | October 31, 2007 |

This is only the second senior book I’ve created, but I already love it! Laying out photographs in book form is really fun for me, because it allows me to craft a personality out of a set of images. Individual photographs are great, but collections of photographs are SO exciting to look at! (Maybe that’s why we have like 8 million coffee table books on our shelves…!)

My favorite part of building Christina’s book was that she has gorgeous, red-gold hair, and bright eyes, and her clothes were all bold and bright as well. Pulling colors from her own outfits was a lot of fun as I selected the background for each page.

I’m excited about the other senior books I will get to create before the year is out! More to come…

Engaged! Jessica + Brett

By Dan & Anne Almasy | E-Shoots | October 30, 2007 |

We pulled ourselves out of bed on Sunday morning to photograph Jessica and Brett, who also pulled themselves out of bed after a 10 hour drive to Atlanta from Virginia just to be photographed by us! (WOW! Thanks for coming down, guys!) We had a BLAST with these two. They’re super funny and fun and we CAN’T WAIT to photograph their wedding in Florida in December!

P.S. Sorry, guys — we tried to get a shot with the leprachaun in the tree, but I guess he kept ducking back every time we turned the camera his way. Drat.

Married! Jana + John

By Dan & Anne Almasy | Weddings | October 24, 2007 |

WOW! Jana and John’s wedding was one of the boldest, brightest celebration we’ve ever photographed! Strong colors and vibrant personalities made this a wedding to remember, for sure.

We were so honored to be a part of the day!

Gooseberry Creative Events managed the event, and their unique vision for the Bold American rooms at the King Plow Arts Center transformed the raw space into a rich reflection of the bride and groom themselves. Kudos to the terrific Event Design Group for pulling everything together with such fabulous flair!

Anne also spent the first part of the day at the amazing Twelve Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Talk about a beautiful place to relax before getting hitched! (If you’re a sucker for natural light like we are, this is the place for you!)

THANK YOU, Jana and John, for sharing your wedding day with us! You are wonderful people, and we wish you all the best life has to offer!

See the slideshow here or check out a few of our favorite shots below…

John’s niece created this adorable note, which was taped to their fridge…

This was just one of John’s happy/shocked/amazed/overwhelmed expressions as Jana announced that, as her gift to her new husband, she had commissioned performance painter Frenchy from New Orleans to come and PAINT THEIR RECEPTION. HOW FREAKIN’ COOL IS THAT?!?!?

Last spring we created Save the Date Cards for Jana and John, and they used our design to create custom labels for the mini champagne bottles they gave to their guests!

CONGRATULATIONS Jana and John!

Class of 2008! Christina…

Married! Lindsay + Grant

By Dan & Anne Almasy | Weddings | October 17, 2007 |

Lindsay and Grant are one of the BUSIEST couples we’ve ever worked with! Their super-successful company GRIP Promotions keeps them on the road and on their toes nearly every waking minute (from what we can tell), but that didn’t stop them from planning a beautiful wedding celebration at Higdon House in Greensboro, GA.

THANK YOU, Lindsay and Grant, for making us part of your day!

Enjoy the SLIDESHOW here or see a handful of our favorites below…

Dan wandered in and woke up Grant and his groomsman, who were *trying* to get in a quick nap before the wedding!

Okay, the porcelain bear… turns out Grant gave this to Lindsay not long after they started dating. Only after he proposed did Lindsay find out that Grant’s father had given the same porcelain bear to Grant’s mother before proposing to her. Seems like Grant knew long before Lindsay that they were meant for each other…

Lindsay and Grant’s three dogs were honorary members of the wedding party!

CONGRATULATIONS!

We’re “it”!

By Anne Almasy | Personal | October 17, 2007 |

Lately, photographers across the country have been playing an online game of “Tag”, nominating their colleagues to blog about 8 things that most people wouldn’t typically know about them. Dan and I have been tagged by three fabulous photographers over the past few weeks, and we figured it was about time we joined the game. Big thanks to Jennifer Nichols, Zofia Waig, and Delaney Holliman for making us “it”!

1. Dan and I met online! Nope, not through a dating site; through a message board for artists and hipsters (I know, I know — what were we doing there? Haha.) We got married 2-and-a-half years later.

2. Dan doesn’t drink alcohol, but I LOVE beer. Dan does, however, consume more *beverage* (water, juice, milk, soda…) than any other human being I’ve ever met!

3. Dan is 6′2″ and I am 5′10″. We are both the tallest members of our immediate families.

4. We watch Heroes every Monday night at 9pm on NBC. It’s currently our favorite show on TV!

5. Dan’s high school job: sales clerk at Urban Outfitters; my high school job: office gal for local portrait photographer Ronnie Owings.

6. We applied in 2004 and got my family featured on an old Discovery Channel show called Surprise By Design. We were all on TV that same winter!

7. Our default post-wedding meal: frozen DiGiorno pizza with EXTRA pepperoni. (It’s one of the meats I crave!) If we’re on the road, we’ll order thin-crust from the local pizza delivery joint.

8. We love dogs, and we love children, but we have neither — and don’t you expect that to change! *wink*

Since we don’t want to be party-poopers, I’ll go ahead and tag our good friends Tim Harman and Kurt Damron. You’re up, guys!

Engaged! Emily + Bill

By Dan & Anne Almasy | E-Shoots | October 9, 2007 |

BIG, FAT, ENORMOUS thanks to the talanted women at Gooseberry Creative Events for introducing us to Emily and Bill! We are SO excited to be photographing their wedding in the spring! We had a blast with them at their E-Shoot last week. They are such a fantastic match for one another, and two people we would definitely love to have a beer with!

Meet Dan’s Family.

By Dan Almasy | Personal | October 8, 2007 |

Last week, Anne and I made the 500+ mile trek up to visit my folks in my old stomping grounds of Columbus, Ohio. We don’t get up to visit very often, so when we do, we try and make the most of it. This trip, I made a mission to take some photos of my family, because I realized that I really just don’t have any recent photos of them, and as a photographer that’s a crime! So without further delay, let me introduce you to my family:

There are my parents, Jim and Missy.

And just my mom.

My Grandma, Lola.

My youngest brother, Tyler.

My 17 year old brother, Jesse.

My Uncle Aaron, his wife Lara, and our tiny little cousin, Lydia!

Another of Lydia.

My cousin Corey (who’s also like a brother to me), and his wife Erin.

Another of Corey.

We went down to the park near my parents’ house later that day for some more “fun” pictures using a flash. The previous shots of Corey and Erin started it off. I also really wanted to get a shot of Jesse with his guitar – he LOVES playing his guitar, and I wanted to showcase that in a pseudo-rockstar kind of image – I think we got it.

Another of Tyler.

Finally, what I consider to possibly be the best shot of Corey ever taken.

We had a great time visiting with my folks, and it was good to have a little break from our busy busy life here in Atlanta. My family is really awesome, and I hope some of that came through in these pictures, I’m fortunate to come from good people. Thanks for letting me share this stuff you out there.
