Married! Sarah + Dan

Note from Anne: I studied photography at HIP with Sarah, and I was SOOOOOOOOO excited and honored when she e-mailed asking if we would photograph her wedding in upstate New York!  I got to see not only Sarah, but also Jen, Lyndsie, and Senta, three other girls I went to photo school with!  This made things REALLY silly and TOTALLY fun!

Sarah and Dan are one of those couples who knew EXACTLY what their wedding day was about, and there was literally NOTHING that could happen to ruin it for them — including a sudden downpour just seconds before they were about to walk down the aisle for their garden ceremony. We scrambled to cover our cameras (and ourselves) under huge garbage bags while the guests all popped open umbrellas. Weather notwithstanding, everyone was so completely joyful the entire day! We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful celebration!

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves…

The day started bright and early in Sarah’s hotel room, where she took a quick smoke break before getting ready.

Jen laces up the back of Sarah’s dress.

Sarah stands on the bed and instructs Senta on how to hold the mirror for the best full-length view.

The wedding party wore a combo of Converse Chucks and Adidas Sambas.  Here is “Team Chucks”:

The celebration was held at Beardslee Castle, a 148-year-old replica of an Irish castle.  Visit the website’s “History” page to read some really spooky ghost stories about the castle!

Sarah and Dan show off their shoes upon seeing each other for the first time.

The wedding party.

Sarah…

…and Dan.

Regan’s little shoes.

The girls wait under umbrellas for the ceremony to start.  At this point it was REALLY raining!

The rain didn’t dampen the mood one bit!

Sarah’s dad escorts her down the aisle while her mom looks on.  Two guys from Dan’s band Honeycreeper played music during the ceremony.

Dan’s parents take in the ceremony.

Dan holds Sarah’s ring against his rain-splattered suit jacket.

Friends and family look on.

Wait a minute… YES!  Sarah put Dan’s ring on the wrong hand!  Haha.  (He fixed it before they kissed.)

Kiss!

Dan and Sarah enter the reception.

The first dance…  We love that Sarah is wearing her camera!

Regan kept herself entertained by playing under the tables and sneaking licks of icing off of Sarah and Dan’s cake!

Regan tastes the icing (again) while Sarah and Dan cut the cake.

Dan and Sarah had an “Equal Opportunity Bouquet Toss”, allowing both girls AND guys to try to catch the bouquet!

The first catch:

The second catch:

Sarah cracks up while dancing with some of her friends from Respite House where she works.  (Respite House is an incredible retreat for adults with special needs who want a little break from their families.  Many of Sarah’s friends and colleagues from Respite attended the wedding, and they partied like true rock stars!)

Regan discovers the joy of party favors.

When the rain let up, I snagged Sarah and Dan for a few more portraits.

We had a REALLY hard time narrowing the photos for this post!  We also spent time at Sarah and Dan’s rehearsal dinner, and at the after-party at Dan’s house, but in the end we decided to share just photos from the wedding itself.  If you want to see more, check out the slideshow!

Thank you SO much, Sarah and Dan, for bringing us to New York to celebrate with you!
